Hey y’all! I am excited to announce that we’ve just created our very own Tribe on Tailwinds. What is a Tribe? Well, it is a new Pinterest tool that allows people like you and me to meet others with similar interests. We can use this tool to share our experiences and grow our blogs/businesses.

‘Tribes is Free for anyone to get started, even if they aren’t using Tailwind already!’

I’m so excited to start our Kirby’s Kids Homeschool Tribe and would like other homeschoolers to join us as we help each other on this journey. I know I don’t have a lot of homeschool support close to me and I am always looking for ideas and solutions to problems we encounter. If I am looking for these things I know others are too and I just wanted to make a place where everyone is welcome to post ideas, tricks, and tips to that they have found which may help others.

As a member you can share up to 3 posts per day with the request that you will repin/reshare 3 posts (or more) from other members. Feel free to share anything related to homeschool, parenting, or anything else that might help a busy mom keep it all together. I look forward to seeing all the great tips and advice as well as watching each member help another to grow and learn on our journey.

If you join our Tribe right now you can get a very special surprise when you join with this invitation link right here.

13 Fun First Day Back To HomeSchool Ideas

**This post does contain some affiliate links which could possibly earn me a small commission if a purchase was made through them. These links help to support our blog and our family.

I can remember how excited I always was on my first day back to school. I loved school as a kid and I was always so eager to learn. My best memories were of the teachers who let us play games or gave us special treats on that first day. Maybe they were just trying to bribe us but it was something I remember.

As a homeschooling Momma I can find ways to bring that excitement into our homeschool. I try to keep things fun and interesting and sometimes do something a little crazy. Check out my new Pinterest board, Homeschool: First Day Activities. Continue reading 13 Fun First Day Back To HomeSchool Ideas

I’ve had a couple of great successes as far a my blog goes and I want to thank everyone for their support and loyalty. Without readers I wouldn’t be where I am right now.

At the New Year I had set some goals for myself and my blog. While a lot of those goals haven’t been accomplished for various reasons some of them have. Some of you may remember that I had planned to move my blog over to BlueHost. I had some BIG plans. (Great site and exceptional customer services!)

Then things kinda fell apart because when we went to transfer the site it didn’t go as planned. I was panicked for a bit as I thought for sure that we’d lost my whole blog but thankfully most of it was restored.

Then the next month I had gotten really sick and had to go to the hospital TWICE. Not fun! Then I’ve spent the past few  several months recovering and paying off those bills. Last month I finally finished getting them paid off… Yay! I also started getting back  to blogging. I mean I’ve really been working hard at it trying to get back into the swing of things.

Last month I also stumbled across the Wealthy Affiliate program and did some of the FREE trainings that they offered and boy did I learn a lot. In fact I started putting the information to use right away.

Then a funny happened. I expected to see an increase in traffic on my blog and I did. (I had set a goal of having at least 20 views/day which was kind of pathetic since I had well over that this time last year but you’ve got to start somewhere, right?) I am happy to say that I far succeeded that goal and have set an even bigger goal for this month.

Along with the increased blog traffic I began to notice a dramatic increase in my Instagram followers. I had initially hoped to reach 1,500 followers by mid year but that didn’t happen, probably because of my lack of effort. This week we finally reached that goal and are steadily climbing as we speak.

To celebrate I have decided to host an Amazon Giveaway but I couldn’t decide on what to do. I debated on whether to go with back to school supplies or books/magazines as I know my kids love these:

National Geographic Kids Magazines

Then being a busy Momma I know that there are a lot of other ideas I could come up with. I know I could really use this:

Well Planned Day, Family Homeschool Planner, July 2018 – June 2019

Decisions, decisions but sadly after spending over an hour talking with three different Amazon customer reps I was not able to set up a giveaway as I have previously done. (My account was hacked a few months ago and now they have suspended most of my privileges.)

No worries as I have decided to use Rafflecopter to host a giveaway of an Amazon.com eGift card in the amount of $25.00! Then the winner can choose whatever prize they like and I can get off the phone with customer service. Amazon is not affiliated with this giveaway.

Is Your HomeSchool Area ‘School Ready’?

**This post does contain some affiliate links which could possibly earn me a small commission if a purchase was made through them. These links help to support our blog and our family.

If this is your first year homeschooling this is an important step to making sure you get your year off on a good start.

You don’t need a huge Pinterest perfect school area as I’ve talked about in this post but you do need it to be organized if you want to be successful. Having stuff here and there is a surefire way to get overwhelmed in a hurry. Trust me, I know this from experience.

Our main area is our dining table. We have some bookshelves which hold the majority of our books plus I have another shelf with the books I am using that are specific to our curriculum for this year. Continue reading Is Your HomeSchool Area ‘School Ready’?

Ohhhh! I am so excited to be sharing this post with you. The kids are pretty excited about it too! My fingers are going faster than my brain as I am typing and somehow or another they are managing to put into words what I want to say. I did show a sneak peak of some of the items we’ve received in this post here but now I am going to show you everything we have right now.

If you haven’t seen my latest posts about homeschooling check out the links here but if you are only interested in what we have planned for this year, please keep scrolling.

I’ve been talking about how excited I am for our next homeschool year and I just can’t wait to get started. I have actually talked about this curriculum before but its been awhile. My kids are finally at the age that I think this will work out really well for everyone. Continue reading Kirby’s Kids: Our 2018-2019 Homeschool Curriculum Reveal

Moon Day

**This post does contain affiliate links which help to support our blog.

So here I go again…. adding some more days to those crazy and unusual days that I’ve posted about before. This would be a great way to spice up a dull summer day when the kids are complaining about being bored.

July 20th is National Moon Day. It honors the first day that man set foot on the moon back 1969. It was declared a National Moon Landing Day by President Nixon in 1971. This is a great day to teach our kids about the moon and progress NASA has made.

You can find other ideas to celebrate on my Pinterest Board Homeschool: July. You can also find other ideas for other July Holidays there as well.

I’ve also got this great book that I’ll be reading to the kids on this day.

I’m thinking I might even get some Moon Pies and/or Astronaut Ice Cream for snack on this day to eat while they listen to the story. In addition to this book we may also check out some of these great videos and activities listed below:

St. Nicholas Day 2016

This was our first year celebrating St. Nicholas Day here at our house. I am hoping to keep this new tradition and continue to build on it as we go through the years. Below are some of the ways that we celebrated today:

The night before, after our Advent Study, we set out our stockings. Many traditions involve setting out shoes, but we chose to use our stockings because Momma didn’t want to put the shoes on the table. The kids also made some chocolate chip cookies with DD17. Then they left a glass of milk and a plate of cookies for St. Nick to snack on.

Sometime after the kids went to bed St. Nick made a visit by our house.

They each received a book, a coloring book, a small toy, and a few candies. (Santa picked all of these up at the Dollar Tree.) The kids were eager to check their stockings first thing. He even left a few items for Grandpa, DD17, DS21, and Momma.

After everyone’s curiosity was satisfied we had a special breakfast…. Santa Pancakes!

We happened to be having some really heavy rains today so Momma cancelled school due to the internet being really slow. Good thing Momma had some other activities planned out.

We read the Santa Who? book. We also had some coloring sheets and activities that I had printed from my St. Nicholas board on Pinterest. We also watched a few videos about Christmas.

We also put up our Christmas tree! This was probably one of the most exciting things about the day for the kids. (We also watched a video about how the Christmas tree became to be a symbol of Christmas.)

All in all it was a really good day. I think this will help us to keep the focus that Jesus is the reason for Christmas while also answering the numerous questions that arise about Santa Claus. It also honors the work that St. Nicholas did.

I would have loved to invite Santa for dinner but I didn’t know anyone who would be available on such short notice. (I do have a Santa outfit in the building that we use for our Polar Express parties.) If you decide to start this tradition in your own house then do whatever you want to make it special to your family.

Merry Christmas!
