This post actually started out as a different post but it got so long that I broke it down and decided to share this part of it with you today!
Things have been SO CRAZY BUSY here lately… I can’t tell you about everything we’ve been up to but I will let you know about a few things we have been doing down below. We are so excited about EVERYTHING that is going on and we just can’t wait to SPILL THE BEANS with EVERYONE!
For now, though I’ll tell you about some of our latest adventures here in our little cabin.
A trip to the movies
We took them ALL to see the new Lion King and it was so GOOD! My oldest son was a HUGE Lion King fan when he was little… and I believe he may still be very partial to the original but my younger kids only knew about the new Disney version of the series.
Here’s a trailer for it if you haven’t seen it yet:

Oh my goodness, what a day I’ve had and it isn’t even been lunchtime yet. I actually went to bed early last night as I was just so exhausted. Mr. Awesome had a meeting and wouldn’t be home until late so I made the most of the evening.
The kids helped me make Chili Dog Casserole for dinner. We made it a little bit different as we just put the hotdogs into hotdog buns, instead of tortillas, and then spread the chili sauce on top and sprinkled with cheese before baking.
Mr. Awesome is not crazy about the tortilla version so we decided to give it a try this way and it was a WINNER! Continue reading “Oh, What a day! Freezer meals, Pinterest Suspension, and No Toilet Paper”
Oh my goodness, things have been so crazy here… I wish I could share it all with you but we are trying our best not to ‘jinx’ ourselves but my patience is wearing thin and I’m about ready to scream because I JUST WANT TO TELL THE WHOLE WORLD HOW EXCITED WE ARE! Continue reading “Susie’s Chem Free Zone: Our First Norwex Unboxing”
I’d say I’m about an 8 or 9 on most days… I really don’t like a dirty house but I hated the smells of the chemicals but with Norwex we can clean super-fast with just a microfiber cloth and water! So easy! Continue reading “Question of the Day”
Here at our little cabin, we’ve been on a mission to ‘Go Green’ or at least go greener than we have been and let me tell you that it has not been an entirely smooth path. I’ve spent countless hours researching products and companies, then spent money on products that seemed like they would be a good fit only to find out that they didn’t work for us.
I have found some products that I really loved but I had to pay a yearly subscription fee or had a minimum monthly purchase required to be able to keep buying them. Well, no more hassles here. I’ve found a company that offers everything we need and more.
The first product I ordered was a couple of these cute little ‘pet to dry’ hand towels for the bathroom:
The kids love using them and I love that they don’t get pulled off the towel bar every time someone washes their hands. They also have this great BacLock feature that keeps them from getting all sour-smelling… you know what I mean. Yuck!
I recently placed another order for even more products and made the decision to join the company as an Independent Sales Consultant. Yay!! I have been pondering the idea for a while after stumbling across some YouTube videos a few months back. I had been hesitating because I was waiting for the right time… I’m sure many of you can relate.

Lordy, Lordy was all I could say when I got up yesterday. This was something my Mom-mom would say a lot about different situations.
I had been super stressed and had gone on ‘strike‘ over the weekend. As a result, the house was a mess. The kids had cleaned up a little bit but there was a lot that they had missed. There was stuff everywhere and what I mean by stuff was cookie crumbs, dirty clothes, toys, and wet towels to name a little. There was also sticky spots from jelly and sweet tea all over the kitchen.
The food and wet towels were like a flashing neon ‘Vacancy’ sign for the ants. The fact that we’ve been experiencing an extremely wet season doesn’t help either. The house had been invaded. Continue reading “And The Ants Came Marching In ….”
I know Chickenpox is not as common as it once was but boy do I remember when my oldest son got it. I was pregnant with my second child and I got it too for the second time. It was a bit uncomfortable for me but my husband had never had them. He and his cousin caught them and they were miserable until I came up with this to use for them.
This would probably be good for any kind of itchy rash that you may have.

I wear a lot of costume jewelry when I go square dancing. It just completes some of my outfits and adds a bit of sparkle which is so pretty when you are dancing and twirling.

In my post about the wonky smell, I mentioned that I cleaned my kitchen drains with a baking soda and vinegar mixture. However, I have come to realize that some people don’t know how to do this. It’s really quite simple and I’ll explain it here. (I’ll try to take pics or maybe a video to post along with this the next time I do it.)
Not only is this easy it’s also a cheap way to clean and maintain your drains and garbage disposal. These ingredients are environmentally friendly as well. I have also used this method to clear drain clogs as well as toilet clogs.
We have also found that this helps a lot when we have gnats and/or fruit flies hanging around the kitchen!
Baking Soda Drain Cleaner And Freshener
- 1 c. baking soda
- 1 c. white vinegar (or some people use salt)
- 2 quarts of boiling water
Pour baking soda down the drain.
Pour the vinegar or salt down the drain.
If using vinegar you should wait about 5-10 minutes and then flush with the boiling water being careful not to burn yourself.
If using the salt it would be best to wait a bit longer or even overnight, if possible, before flushing with boiling water.
The drain should smell fresher and if it was clogged it will begin to unclog itself. Stubborn clogs may take a bit of time to clear and you can repeat with boiling water every 10 minutes or so until it is running smooth.
Recently I purchased a bag of Food Grade Diatomaceous Earth. It has many different health benefits but the one my daughter was most interested in was a facial mask or scrub as she has been busy making makeup videos.
She has commented that this has helped make her skin very soft and smooth. The tea tree oil is also good for redness and acne.
Natural Face Scrub/Mask
Mix everything together until smooth. You may need to add a bit more coconut oil or honey to make a thick paste.
Smooth over your face and let sit 5-10 minutes.
Use the mixture to gently scrub your face and rinse thoroughly.
If you find that you are sensitive to any of these ingredients you may want to try out the body/face cloths from Norwex… they are AMAZING!

Well, now that I have all of these frozen green beans in my freezer I can start using them in many different ways. One of the ways we really like to eat them is oven-roasted… the little kids think of them as bean fries.
You can add in the parmesan and breadcrumbs if you like or leave it out if cheese is not your thing. You could also substitute bacon drippings for the olive oil and sprinkle them with some crumbled bacon to take these to another level.
If you buy or pick whole green beans they do make for a prettier presentation but we use a lot of frozen green beans as we get them at a really good price from Southwestern Produce.
