I think I mentioned here that I was planning to hang a dry erase board to keep track of where I had stored all of our refrigerated/frozen foods as we have 2 freezers and 2 refrigerators that we are currently using.
Well, I did manage to get the board hung up on Saturday but the sticky hooks weren’t strong enough and it soon fell down. Today I went to Walmart and picked up a couple of command hooks:
And a pack of small sawtooth hangers:
The plan was to attach the hangers to the back of the dry erase board and then use the hooks to hang it on the wall. First problem was getting those hangers attached because the nails were so darn tiny!
Then I remembered a trick I had seen somewhere before:
The picture is a little blurry but I used a comb to hold the nail in place so I could hammer it in without smashing my fingers.
Voila! A few minutes later I had them both attached.
Next was to place the hooks on the wall. I just eyeballed this… sometimes my OCD kicks in and I will spend a few hours measuring and checking the level but not this time.
I then used some alcohol to prep the area.
While I was in the bathroom grabbing the alcohol and cotton balls Mr. Coffee Connoisseur decided he would ‘fix’ himself a hot chocolate but luckily he can’t reach the power button. He insisted he was ‘just getting it ready’ so Momma could finish it.
We talked about how the new coffee maker was not a toy and then I told him we would all enjoy a nice hot chocolate after we finished this project.
Then I got the hooks ready:
The hooks came with three sticky pieces. Each side is labeled so it makes it pretty easy. (They also remove very easily, if needed.) Once the hooks were ready I put them on the wall:
Once the second one was attached I hung up the dry erase board:
And the board was complete. Well almost….
Mr. Coffee, who loves to practice writing his name, had added his own little touches to the board while I was attaching the hooks… never a dull moment here. Then I let my OCD have its way, just a little, when I rewrote the bottom half of the board.
I wrote the items in order as you can find them in the porch freezer. The other freezer is a chest freezer and it is fairly organized as well as the outside fridge.
Now the board is finished… I am still thinking of a catchy name for it other than ‘Freezer Board’ though. I am hoping this will be a handy addition to help with managing our grocery shopping and meal planning. This allows not only me but my oldest daughter to be able see what we have on hand, where to find it, and what we may need to get or add to the grocery list.
Mr. Coffee was happy to see it finished and he asked if he could write his name on it again but I explained to him that this was Momma’s board and reminded him that he has his own. Then we made some hot cocoa, (Momma had some Twinings Earl Grey tea) and had some powdered donuts for a snack. (A special little treat, Just Because.)
This is a company I had recently heard about and really wanted to try. Well, this past weekend we did pick up our order of veggies and I will say that I am very pleased!
I’ve been really busy this year and we didn’t put out a garden so being able to get farm fresh produce was a real treat. It looks just as good as if I had went to the work of growing it and putting it up myself. Best of all the freezer is pretty well stocked for the next couple of months and hopefully we will have enough frozen veggies to supplement the fresh ones I find until we can place another order.
Southwestern Produce offers a wide variety of fruits and vegetables (over 50 different items), even nuts on occasion. Most of the products are picked, shelled, blanched, and frozen so you don’t have much to do other than putting in the freezer and cooking it when you are ready. You could divide the produce up into individual bags but I chose not to this time around. (If you think there is too much you could probably go in halves with a friend or neighbor and then divide them up after you get them home too.)
It’s very simple to place your order by phone or online. You do need to check and see where the pickup places are and what dates so you can mark your calendars. They have various locations in AL, GA, and FL.
I think this order was the last one for this season. The gentleman said they would start up again in April. I have also signed up for their mailing list so I can be notified of the next sale dates. They also have a Facebook page where they post information about specials like their Georgia Pecans they had this time around. They also had some very delicious tomatoes that make perfect tomato sandwiches.
Their website has a tab with recipes for people like me that have never heard of such things like zipper peas or pink eye peas. They also have some ‘How To’ instructionals for people that my want to can their produce. This is something that I have done when I’ve had my own garden and something I’d like to do in the future. Canned food is great to have for your emergency supplies.
All in all I am excited to have found this company and hope that you will check them out if you are in this area. If not, maybe there are companies like this in your area that you could try. This not only benefits you and your family but also the families of our local farmers.
You can read more about the company here.
We bought a variety of fruits and vegetables as you can see with those big bags on the 3rd and 4th shelves. The kids were so excited to see all of these goodies and are already making plans for the strawberries and the candy vegetables (mixed veggies). I see some Blueberry Oatmeal Bread, Blueberry Muffins, Blueberry Yum-Yum, Blackberry Cobbler, and Peach Cobblers in our future as well as many different dishes made from all of those vegetables. Not to mention the pumpkin, bananas, squash, and other vegetables that we have in the freezer too.
If you don’t have any local companies you can also check out Amazon Fresh:
I’ve been teasing you all a bit with my ‘Just Because’ and I promise I am working on some posts. However I was surprised with a ‘Just Because’ moment this weekend.
Saturday, after my trip to Sam’s, Mr. Awesome showed up carrying some bags and a package. I asked him what he had, because I’m nosy, and he replied that it was my birthday present. I gave him a puzzled look and laughed… ‘Silly, its not my birthday!’.
He stopped and looked at me with a serious look. ‘Do you mean to tell me Tuesday isn’t your birthday?’
I realized it was a joke as Tuesday is Halloween… haha… am I really that mean?
Anyway he came inside without telling me what he had. I finished up what I was working on and then headed inside as well.
I found him busy in the kitchen setting up a new coffee maker. I had mentioned before that I wanted to get a Keurig but I was waiting for my old coffee maker to give out. He had purchased the K-Compact as he knows that I am always trying to save space here and this one is considerably smaller than some of the other models.
After unboxing it he cleared the old coffee maker off the counter. (It will be given to a friend.) He then proceeded to set it up, without reading the instructions, and plugged it in. Within 10-15 minutes I had a hot cup of coffee to sip on.
First step was to rinse everything out and fill the reservoir up with clean water.
Next was to power it up.
Then you place an empty cup underneath.
Lift and lower the lid which should make the three brew buttons starting blinking.
Press the small cup button to do your cleansing brew. Then discard the water.
Now you are ready to make your first cup. Place your cup underneath and select a K-cup.
Insert the K-cup and then close the lid. (Don’t take off the foil!) The three buttons will start blinking again. (Large mug=10 oz, Small mug = 8 oz, Small cup = 6 oz) Select your size and wait about a minute.
You can now enjoy your HOT coffee. (We have been able to get 2 cups of coffee out of each K-cup. We pour both cups into a larger insulated mug but this doesn’t work with the cappuccino or cocoa as they are too weak on the second cup.) Be careful when removing the used K-cup as it will be hot.
I am also looking into getting some of these reusable filters as I just purchased a new can of coffee.
You can find a wide variety of K-cups to suit just about any taste including many assortment packs like Coffee, Tea, Cider, Cappuccino and Hot Chocolate Single Serve Cups For Keurig K Cup Brewers Variety Pack Sampler, Twinings Keurig 2.0 K Cup Sampler Assortment, Coffee Variety Sampler Pack for Keurig K-Cup Brewers, Ultimate Hot Chocolate K-Cup Variety Sampler, and Coffee, Tea, Cider, Cappuccino and Hot Chocolate Single Serve Cups For Keurig K Cup Brewers Variety Pack.
I found a small drawer to store a variety of the k-cups in. After cleaning it up a bit we placed it underneath the napkin holder. It works perfect and I can refill it as needed. There are a variety of organizers you can buy also like Keurig Approved 3-tier K-Cup Drawer, Keurig Brewed K-Cup Drawer, or K-Cup Carousel. I just happened to have the drawer on hand and it works.
I know that Christmas is coming up and I had kind of thought this would be a great Christmas gift to myself but now know it is a great ‘Just Because’ gift. Sometimes we don’t need to wait for a special reason or occasion to show those around us how much we care about them. Do you have something special you would like to do for someone? Don’t wait, do it now! Tomorrow is not promised so we really need to be sure that those around us know, today, how much they mean to us. That is the basic principle behind my ‘Just Because’ ideas.
(The peacock mug was another Just Because gift from my sister a while back.)
Today I made a quick run to Sam’s Club. I love the fact that you can place your order online and then pick it up. They do all the shopping and have it loaded into buggies when you get there. I love it almost as much as Amazon Prime.
I placed a HUGE order yesterday afternoon. I haven’t been in a few, maybe several, months and with the recent move and hurricane we were really needing to stock up. I guess when it’s cold I get into ‘hibernation’ mode. This was a good thing when we lived in colder places and would sometimes be snowed in or without power for weeks at a time but I guess it really isn’t necessary here. I still like to have a well stocked pantry and I try to keep my freezers stocked as well.
I left early this morning as the closest Sam’s is about an hour away. I try to get there first thing so I can get in and out quickly. Much to my surprise I received the message that the order was ready as I was pulling into the parking lot. I walked right in and scanned my card. Within a few minutes we were loading up my Yukon. And load it up we sure did.
We got a variety of items this time around. Milk, eggs, yogurt, butter, sugar, chicken, pork chops, hamburger, potatoes, lettuce, carrots, tomatoes, apples, bananas, rice, pastas, household supplies, and various other things we use.
The guy helping me load thought I had a daycare… I guess I kind of do.
I must say that this was one of the best trips I’ve made. I think we saved over $50, with in-store promotions, which isn’t great when you consider I spent about $700 but most of these items will not need to be replaced for a couple of months, at least. The convenience of getting it all at once and not running around was well worth it.
The customer service was also great and they helped load my vehicle which was a plus too. I did take a cooler with me for some of the cold products like ice cream. I also took my grocery bags but they had most of the stuff boxed up nicely. I was impressed!
Upon arriving at home the kids were super excited to help unload the groceries. Once unloaded there were boxes all over the kitchen and the dining room.
It was quite a mess but we started with the cold stuff and then worked out way through the bathroom supplies, then the dry goods, and finally I am finishing up with the meat I had in the cooler. Yay!
Now I just need to find homes for the big packages of toilet paper and paper towels. I’m thinking they will fit under my bed for now.
In a bit I will go over the receipt and check to see what items were out of stock so we can make a trip to the local Walmart and then we should be set for a little bit. I still need to do another trip for some more toiletries and a few other items that I didn’t get on this run but that won’t be for another week or two.
The kids had a lot of fun helping and were constantly trying to guess, or suggest, what we should make with the different foods. They also helped to straighten and organize the lower cabinets.
The most fun they had was with the boxes. Their little imaginations went crazy. The boxes became everything from box cars to box turtles. I’m gonna have to carry most of them out in a bit. Hopefully storing them in the wash shed so I can use them as I declutter the porch that is still a work in progress.
I’m really thankful that we do have the second refrigerator and freezer out in the wash shed. I was able to use both of those store some of my purchases. I am planning on hanging a dry erase board in the kitchen to keep track of what foods are in the freezers and second fridge. Another project for my ToDo list.
Anyways I still have a few things to finish up before I make lunch and get everyone down for quiet time. I might even try to sneak in a little nap if I can.
I hope you all have a blessed weekend!

Ok ladies, I know that some of us are not as young as we once were and even though we don’t want to admit it or accept it our bodies will age and changes will happen.
I turned the ‘big 40’ earlier this year and ‘the change’ has made itself evident in many ways. One of the biggest problems I had been having, other than fatigue, was those dreaded hot flashes. They were getting quite bad and becoming more and more frequent.
I’m a very busy lady, as I am sure most you are too so I just couldn’t deal with the constant interruptions these hot flashes were causing. I had been told about this product before and decided to give it a try. I found them on Amazon and two days later the box arrived at my door. I am halfway through my first box and I must say that I am so happy that I gave them a try!
Within the first week my hot flashes had pretty much disappeared. I did have one this morning but it did not even phase me a bit. I can honestly say that my energy levels have improved as well as my mood.
I had noticed that I had been getting more and more grumpier before I started taking these. I don’t know if the improvement in mood is because of the Estroven or simply because I am resting better and just feel better over all.
Below are some links to some of the different formulas. The first one is the one I have been using and the one that I will be reordering here soon.
** Please note that you should always get your doctor’s approval before trying any new medication or supplement. You should also seek your doctor’s advice about new or recurring symptoms you may be experiencing.
