How’s everyone doing? If you are like a lot of folks then you might be getting a little stir crazy right now and it seems that the shutdowns in our area are only getting started.
Many parents are having to deal with the stresses of their kids being out of school… we all know how easily kids can get bored. Well, if you need some ideas to keep those kiddos entertained then be sure to check out some of the links I have listed under our Homeschool Tab! There are tons of fun (and educational) things to keep the kiddos busy.
I might even recommend that you check out our ‘Little House Academic Adventures’ if you’re kiddos are out of school. There are tons of great links and videos that they can do for FREE while learning about how things were in the 1800s. My kiddos have really enjoyed these lessons so far and we are looking forward to getting moved and getting started with them again!
You can also check out some of the other programs like Kids Cook Real Foods (link under the Homeschool tab), Mystery Science, and/or Skill Trek for ideas to keep your kids in learning mode.

How are y’all doing?
I’ve started feeling a tad bit better this week… not having constant nausea like I previously had although it still hits and still knocks me down from time to time. I have managed to make all of our ‘normal’ breakfasts for the week… yay! The kids were happy to have French Toast and Pancakes again. I had cheated and bought quite a bit of cereal over the past few weeks… they like cereal but they missed their hot meals.
I had used up all of my freezer meals and was forced to cook this week… dinner was not always on the table at the usual time but it did get made. Sometimes dinner didn’t quite make sense as I was just pulling things out of the cabinets in the order I found them… lol. Whew! What a time we’ve had over the past few weeks! I apologize for not getting to post anything on a regular basis. A lot of the recipes that have posted had been typed up prior to November, when my oldest daughter left for Kansas, and then scheduled to post later… good thing I did that or I wouldn’t have had the energy to do anything all month!
I’m having an OK morning so far so I wanted to go ahead and try to type up a quick post to fill everyone in on what has been going on around here! So just in case, you missed some of our most recent news, here is a quick update:
- Mr. Awesome and I got married on Christmas Day with a surprise wedding!
- We also officially announced that there will be a new addition to our family later this year!

So we did get to celebrate Christmas in our new house even though we can’t officially move in yet and we had no power… or heat! We set the tree up and decorated it on Saturday and everyone had a lot of fun helping.
After the decorating was done it was time to kick the kids out of the house until Christmas as I needed a gift wrapping station. We had all helped to bring in a lot of the boxes I had in the shed… there may still be a gift or two hidden in there somewhere!
That was a lot of work to get all of those gifts wrapped and taken care of as I hadn’t wrapped the first gift, other than a couple that we took to a party, and there were a lot of boxes!

Hey y’all… I’m so sorry I haven’t been keeping everyone updated but if you follow me on Facebook you’ve been seeing the progress that has been happening on the house since our last update. I’ll fill you in the progress below but first, here is a cute photo from a Christmas Dance that we attended last Saturday… the kids were surprised to learn that the Grinch could square dance!

I think every kid loves playdough and mine are no exception. I recently pinned a bunch of playdough recipes on one of my boards but as luck would have it I actually found one of my own recipes in my old recipe box… it also happened to be the last recipe in the box.
Don’t worry though because I’ve got recipes stashed everywhere in this little house and I have some packed away in the shed so I’ll get them posted… hopefully faster than it took me to get through the recipe box though!
I have also seen some new recipes that are using essential oils which would smell so good. You could probably use this recipe and omit the Kool-aid pack. You could also color them with some natural dyes if you desired too.

So I’ve been trying to get this quick video tour to upload but our internet has been so crappy… well you know how our internet it so it has taken me longer than expected to get this out to you. I’ve also been feeling a bit under the weather and had an ER visit on Sunday where I found out that my potassium was low… sigh… if it isn’t one thing it is another, right? The video tour will be down below but I’ll go ahead and give up a little update on the house since our last update. Continue reading “Life Update and A Quick House Tour”
We had some of this at a dance the other night and Ms. Shirley was kind enough to share her recipe with me. There are many different things you can add to this to make it ‘yours’ and I’ve included some add-ins at the bottom of the recipe. You can also heat this on the stove instead of a crockpot.
Ms. Shirley’s Hot Apple Cider
Ms. Shirley’s Hot Apple Cider
- 6-8 c. apple cider
- 1/4 – 1/2 c. Mrs. Butterworth’s syrup
- 2 cinnamon sticks
Place all ingredients in a large crockpot and heat until warm.
I love the hot apple cider that they serve at the Biltmore Estate in NC. You can add in a couple of these or just one or two to spice up your cider a little bit.
- use real maple syrup instead of Mrs. Butterworth’s syrup
- use 1/4 c. brown sugar in place of syrup
- 1/2 c. orange juice
- 2 t. cinnamon instead of cinnamon sticks
- 4-6 cloves or 1-2 t. ground cloves
- 1/4-1/2 t. allspice
- a pinch of nutmeg
- a pinch of salt
I want to thank everyone who said a little prayer and kept my daughter and son-in-law in their thoughts this past week as they were traveling across the country to their new home… at least it will be for the next couple of years until they are stationed elsewhere. I miss them so much already but I am so happy to report that they made it safely with almost everything they had tied on the back of their truck… the vacuum cleaner was not so fortunate. They are working on getting settled in and preparing to have their first Christmas away from family… I am so proud but it makes me sad too! I don’t know about you but I’ve always felt that the moon does play a big role in how we feel… I truly believe we are more connected than a lot of science can prove. I see it in my kids too.
Just the other night we were at a dance and my 16-year-old special needs child was being CRAZY… I mean over the top CRAZY! He hadn’t started howling at the moon and pretending to change into a werewolf but we were getting close! Continue reading “Does the moon affect your mood?”
