I can remember getting out the biggest bowls we could find to make this when I was a kid. This was always the best part of Thanksgiving for me.
Homemade Bread Stuffing
- 1 1/2 c. chopped onion
- 1 1/2 c. chopped celery
- 1 stick butter
- 1 t. poultry seasoning
- 1 t. rubbed sage
- 1 t. salt
- dash pepper
- 1/2 c. water or broth
- 8 c. dried bread cubes (we usually use fresh bread)
Place the bread cubes in a large bowl.
Cook and stir the onion and celery in the butter until tender.
Add the seasonings.
Add everything to the large bowl with the bread cubes.
Toss to mix… be careful as it may be HOT!
Stuff and roast the turkey immediately or just place this in a greased casserole and bake at 350 for about an hour.
This should stuff a 12-14 pound turkey.
