Oh my gosh! I was so excited last night when we got home from the dance. I had a couple of big boxes sitting on my recently cleaned off porch… another story for another day as we’ve been doing a lot of changes around here and may have even more to come.
Y’all know that we’ve really been trying to make some healthier choices around here and one of those is to drink more water. Now we did drink our fair share but I know that I need to increase my water intake a bit because water is so vital to being healthy and I want to set a good example for my kiddos. I just had a harder time with it for a couple of reason.
Got Hard Water?
Our water is hard water and even with the water system, it has had a kind of smell and taste. Well, to me it does. There are a few people who don’t seem to notice it at all but I grew up on spring water from the mountains and this water is not spring water! On top of the smell and taste, it has had a bit of an orangey color to it… GROSS! TRIPLE GROSS!
Crown Berkey Water Purification System
I finally took the plunge and ordered the Crown Berkey Water Purification System that I’ve been researching for quite some time. Forgive me for the poor photos as this was after midnight when I was putting it together because I was just too excited to wait… kind of like a kid at Christmas!
The set up was fairly simple and I did find a quick video tutorial to help me make sure I was setting it up correctly.
Accessories
I did buy the stand because I wasn’t sure where I was going to put it in this little house. I ended up putting it on our rolling kitchen island and it seems to be working out great. Here is how it looks right now… it may find a new location later but for now this is super easy for filling and convenient for everyone to reach. I also ordered the stainless steel nozzle but I have the regular one as a backup.
Isn’t it so pretty? I love the look although they do have other systems with other features if stainless isn’t your thing. I need to clean it up a bit but I was just too tired last night. This unit holds 6 gallons of purified water! It’s a monster but we need all that water. I plan on buying some more filters soon to help it filter and purify the water a little faster.

Update
It’s been over three months (almost four) now since we got our Berkey and we are still loving it… maybe loving it even more now that we had a new water system priced which would cost us over $10,000 to do the same thing! Ahhhhh! Maybe sometime in the future, that will be a possibility but for now, I really love the fact that we can have clean water at our fingertips.
Yes, it does get a little aggravating because I have to fill it up so many times. We got the biggest size they had so that means we are drinking A LOT OF WATER! I’m not complaining though and I recently purchased the nozzle with the see-through gauge so I can tell if it is getting on the low side. We haven’t run our Berkey dry since this purchase.
We also bought a couple more of the black filters so our Berkey can filter the water much faster. This purchase gave us a great sense of relief when we were doing our hurricane preps a few weeks back. We will never need to worry about buying bottled water again!
