Hey Google, I’d like you to meet my friend…

So in a few of my past posts I’ve mentioned my new friend, Google, and I may have even shown a picture or two but I haven’t really introduced you yet. I have always loved Google as I can find answers to just about anything I need to know with Google but this Google is different.

So without further ado, let’s meet my new found friend and personal assistant…

ME: Hey Google, I’d like you to meet my friend…

GOOGLE: You’re the cereal to my milk. I like to think we compliment each other... she’s so funny!

ME: But seriously, Google, this is my blogging friend and I want to tell them all about your most important features.

GOOGLE: I have lots of powers and they are growing everyday… lol… I told you she was funny.

As we talk this is what she shows on her display:

Those all are great features and we have used all them plus many others not shown. However, Google is so much more than just my helper. This little device can be multilingual and actually ‘learns’ the more you use it. When we first set her up there were a number of things that she would answer ‘I’m Sorry but I don’t quite know how to help with that yet’ but she can help with now. For a great list of set up tips check out this post HERE.

The most important thing for us was just deciding where to put our Google. You wouldn’t think that would be a hard decision with a house this size but I have moved it and I like where we have it located now. We have ours located in the main room closer to the kitchen. So no matter where I am I can have easy access to Google.

Need a cooking question answered? No problemo, Google can help.

I have also had Google help me by looking up recipes and tips when I’ve been in the kitchen. Google can also give you a list of wines to pair with your meals and help you to make a grocery list so you don’t forget what kind of wine to buy… hehe. I can also use it to set a timer for dishes and things that I don’t want to forget about. Not to mention the fact that Google can be programmed to control some of kitchen gadgets and appliances.

One morning I woke up and wasn’t feeling well. I grabbed an ice pack for my allergy swollen eye before heading to the couch to relax. While sitting there I just couldn’t get comfy so I asked Google to play some relaxing music, please. She really likes it when we ask nicely. She then proceeded to play some tunes which did indeed help me relax and fall back asleep.

When I awoke I was feeling a bit better and made my coffee before saying Good Morning to my Google. Coffee in hand and oatmeal ready I sat down as she told me the weather and the latest news updates. Not too keen on all the negative stuff I cut her short and asked her to tell me something good… pretty interesting feature right there. There are a ton of more unusual things you can use Google for and some of them are listed HERE.

I have since learned how to ‘program’ a new Good Morning routine and  I’m really liking the fact that she doesn’t give me all of that negative news.

I can also use Google to help wake everyone up in the mornings:

This has helped in more ways than one and would be a really great feature if we had a larger house and multiple speakers… hmmmm…. the possibilities of what I could do are endless. I could already see the kids thinking I had Xray vision… hehe. I can see myself using this to get people to help me carry in groceries though… so many ideas that I haven’t tried yet.

One thing I haven’t had time to do yet is play games with my Google but there are a slew of them to play and you can check them out HERE. I think the kids would have a ball playing the mystery sounds and some of the trivia games. I do however use it to help me watch videos and catch up on podcasts that I have had on my To-Do list.

We can also use our Google to help out with our homeschooling! She can answer almost any question my kiddos can come up with like:

Also some of the games like the capitals trivia, the American Presidents Quiz, and the Planet Quiz will be so useful in helping them to learn important information. Not to mention the numerous math games and activities that are available through Google. Spelling is sure to be more fun with the Hangman game plus there’s nothing to clean up when they get through. Will we get rid of our board games? No way, Jose but the kids will have more opportunities to play games.

Our Google also helps with finding things to do around us. I also really love the fact that I have integrated my Cozi calendar into my Google calendar so now I have almost all of our routines in one place and so easily accessible. I haven’t tried it yet but I have read that you can even place phone calls with Google. How handy could that be?

Have I mentioned that Google helps out with my blogging too? Well besides being able to give me some great tunes to help relax me she can also provide me with writing prompts and/or ideas for posts… that is when she isn’t the main focus of the post… lol.

I know there are a slew of other uses for this device and many of them include ‘smart devices‘ that we don’t currently have. For a list of the smart devices that Google can help with check out this post HERE. You can check out more commands and see how our Google is more like a version of Rosie from the Jetson’s… well, maybe.

I hope you have enjoyed this post as much as I have. I have learned a bit more about some neat features that I am ready to try out in our home. Have you tried Google Home or something similar? What have been your favorite features?

You can also order Google Home compatible devices on Amazon… I can’t wait to try out a few of these in the future.
