Update:

We have been using this company for over 2 years now and we love them even more than we first did! This is a great way to stock up on healthy options and save money too!

This is a company I had recently heard about and really wanted to try. Well, this past weekend we did pick up our order of veggies and I will say that I am very pleased!

I’ve been really busy this year and we didn’t put out a garden so being able to get farm fresh produce was a real treat. It looks just as good as if I had gone to the work of growing it and putting it up myself. Best of all the freezer is pretty well stocked for the next couple of months and hopefully, we will have enough frozen veggies to supplement the fresh ones I find until we can place another order.

Southwestern Produce offers a wide variety of fruits and vegetables (over 50 different items), even nuts on occasion. Most of the products are picked, shelled, blanched, and frozen so you don’t have much to do other than putting in the freezer and cooking it when you are ready. You could divide the produce up into individual bags but I chose not to this time around. (If you think it is too much you could probably go in halves with a friend or neighbor and then divide them up after you get them home too.)

It’s very simple to place your order by phone or online. You do need to check and see where the pickup places are and what dates so you can mark your calendars. They have various locations in AL, GA, and FL.

I think this order was the last one for this season. The gentleman said they would start up again in April. I have signed up for their mailing list so I can be notified of the next sale dates. They also have a Facebook page where they post information about specials like their Georgia Pecans they had this time around. This time they had some very delicious tomatoes that made some perfect tomato sandwiches.

Their website has a tab with recipes for people, like me, that have never heard of such things as zipper peas or pink eye peas. They also have some ‘How To’ instructionals for people that may want to can their produce. This is something that I have done when I’ve had my own garden and something I’d like to do in the future. Canned food is great to have for your emergency supplies.

All in all, I am excited to have found this company and hope that you will check them out if you are in this area. If not, maybe there are companies like this in your area that you could try. This not only benefits you and your family but also the families of our local farmers.

We bought a variety of fruits and vegetables as you can see with those big bags on the 3rd and 4th shelves.

The kids were so excited to see all of these goodies and are already making plans for the strawberries and the candy vegetables (mixed veggies). I see some Blueberry Oatmeal Bread, Blueberry Muffins, Blueberry Yum-Yum, Blackberry Cobbler and Dumplings, and Peach Sonker in our future as well as many different dishes made from all of those vegetables. Not to mention the pumpkin, bananas, squash, and other vegetables that we have in the freezer too.
