Blonde Brownies

This is a recipe I have had since high school. I have made this recipe again and again and it never fails to please everyone.

Blonde Brownies

Ingredients:

  • 1/3 c. shortening (or oil)
  • 1 c. brown sugar
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1 t. vanilla
  • 1 c. AP flour
  • 1/2 t. baking powder
  • 1/8 t. baking soda
  • 1/2 t. salt
  • 1/2 c. nuts (optional)
  • 1 pkg chocolate chips (10-12 oz) (I have used half a bag and they were still good.)

Directions:

Preheat oven to 350.

Melt shortening in a saucepan. (Add 1 T. hot water if using oil.)

Remove from heat and add sugar. Let cool.

Add egg and vanilla.

Combine flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and nuts in a small bowl.

Add to first mixture. Mix well.

Pour into a greased and floured 9 x 9 pan.

Sprinkle with chocolate chips.

Bake for 20-25 minutes.
