This is a recipe I have had since high school. I have made this recipe again and again and it never fails to please everyone.
Blonde Brownies
Ingredients:
- 1/3 c. shortening (or oil)
- 1 c. brown sugar
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1 t. vanilla
- 1 c. AP flour
- 1/2 t. baking powder
- 1/8 t. baking soda
- 1/2 t. salt
- 1/2 c. nuts (optional)
- 1 pkg chocolate chips (10-12 oz) (I have used half a bag and they were still good.)
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350.
Melt shortening in a saucepan. (Add 1 T. hot water if using oil.)
Remove from heat and add sugar. Let cool.
Add egg and vanilla.
Combine flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and nuts in a small bowl.
Add to the first mixture. Mix well.
Pour into a greased and floured 9 x 9 pan.
Sprinkle with chocolate chips.
Bake for 20-25 minutes.
